Awesome work by street artist Eine. At least 10 stores have been painted so far, with more going up gradually while he prepares for his “The A – Z of Change” showing at the Carmichael Gallery of Contemporary Art in LA.

The exhibit will be up from July 9 – July 30 2009.

Google Maps Typography

alpha-map670

Normally when people link me to things relating to Google Maps they have to do with naked people or some embarrassing moment forever captured on the internet.

However this link is a great find, I am impressed by Rhett. I can’t imagine how long it took him to find what he wanted. It makes me think of the days when we would spend hours looking through magazines with an 8cm by 8 cm square template looking for line, shape and typographic forms for Andy Weed’s Visual Communication III class.

Over the course of several months, beginning of October 2008 to April 2009, Rhett Dashwood spent some time between projects searching Google Maps hoping to discover land formations or buildings resembling letter forms. The picture above is the result of his findings limited within the state of Victoria, Australia. Amazing.

Check out the sources of his images here.

The League of Movable Type

The League of Movable Type is a relatively new website dedicated to becoming a collection of open source type. No more bullshit. Join the revolution.

There are people who design typefaces for a living, and we want them to make money off of something that they do well. This revolution is not a movement against type foundries and type designers; it’s quite the opposite. The kind of revolution we want is a change in the way people think about doing business. We want type foundries and typographers to start thinking, “maybe there’s nothing wrong with giving things away sometimes.”

The first of their offerings is below. Meet Junction.

So Tomato did the location change titles (see what I did there, with the title of the post? Salsa. Cause its Tomato. Clever right? Hysterical.)

I liked the transitions, before I knew they were Tomato and its funny, I was reading this post by Ben Terrett at Noisy Decent Graphics and his thought process was similar to mine, though I tend to ignore when other people don’t like things. Hence my current haircut.

It’s going to be like this all weeks folks, bad jokes and lame comments. Tanner and Adria are on vacation, so just get used to it!

An interesting article and photo documentation of some of the studies going on over at the Royal Acadamy of Art in The Hague

Dutch Design can be seen in one light, only design for designers themselves. On the other hand, its a reflection that Design can be pushed intensively to its best creative extent than just for commercial sustainability.
