13 Most Beautiful… Songs for Andy Warhol’s Screen Tests

Gary Hustwit writes:

In non-Objectified news: I’m currently producing the first ever authorized DVD release of Andy Warhol’s films: 13 Most Beautiful… Songs for Andy Warhol’s Screen Tests. The DVD includes 13 of Warhol’s classic screen tests, including Nico, Edie Sedgwick, Dennis Hopper, Lou Reed, and more, paired with new soundtracks by Dean Wareham and Britta Phillips (the original screen tests are silent… you can watch them that way too). Warhol made over 500 of these four-minute screen test films, and I think they’re some of his most subtly brilliant work.

Flaming Lips’ Christmas on Mars (finally) released

The Flaming Lips, who have been working on Christmas on Mars for what feels like an eternity, have finally set a firm release date.

The film tells the story of the experiences of Major Syrtis during the first Christmas on a newly-colonized Mars. Coyne has described the film as “Maybe Eraserhead or Dead Man crossed with some kind of fantasy and space aspects, like The Wizard of Oz and maybe A Space Odyssey, except done without real actors or money, and set at Christmas-time.”

Remember when cool music videos were on TV all the time? They still exist, just not on MTV. Here is one directed by Bevis Martin & Charlie Youle for Hot Chip.

The world’s largest record collection is unsellable

The Archive from Sean Dunne on Vimeo.

Paul Mawhinney was born and raised in Pittsburgh, PA. Over the years he has amassed what has become the world’s largest record collection. Due to health issues and a struggling record industry Paul is being forced to sell his collection.

The collection is estimated to be worth 50 million; his asking price is 3 million. He’s received no serious offers.

Shouldn’t this be a national treasure?

Artbreak

Chip Kidd is one of the many great designers who said they were too busy to do our questionnaire.

Which is totally understandable, given he had just released a new book and was starting a band. This is the first music video for that band, Artbreak.
