Büro Destruct III

burodestructiii3

After its two highly successful predecessors, Büro Destruct gives us Büro Destruct III, a comprehensive 208-page update on the trailblazing design collective.

Fueled by musical inspirations and a fresh dose of lighthearted humour, the works featured in this book include the entire spectrum of the experimental work they have created for clients.

The book demonstrates the distinctive Büro Destruct style they continue to refine, polish and develop throughout the entire spectrum of their experimental work with characteristic sophisticated vector graphics and playful use of typography.

Available October 2009.

How brilliant is this? Graphic Designer Huw Gwilliam re-designed a bunch of classic records based on Penguin’s signature style. I look forward seeing what records he does next.

Hudson Bec: World of YCN

ac_ycm_mountains

Someone please, take me to this magical paper land.

As part of their design for the YCN Book 0809 Hudson Bec introduced an over-arching concept to help explain who YCN are and what they do. To see more photos of the making of the world, have a look here.

Dropular

picture-2

This site looks like it could become really exciting/interesting. I’d love to have gotten in on the alpha invites before they closed, but I’ll have to keep my eyes open. Its a combination of delicious, ffffound and digg all in one.

Dropular is a media bookmarking service loosely based on the idea of a droplet contributing to a pool, filling it ever-so slightly one by one. This amazing tool lets you discover, remember and share images, videos and links – all in one place.

Exciting! Dropular

I especially like the keyboard navigation that’s going on, up and down arrows to scroll, left and right to change pages. I think that should be more prominent on sites with lots of content like this.

p.s. Dropular, if you read this, please (please please) give me an account. post at markdudilk dot com. Thanks!

Thanks to our buddy Grant Walker for hooking a pal up with an invite.

I’d love to get my hands on one of these book shelf/reading light combination pieces. Its really great idea. Returning the book to the shelf turns the light off and saves your place as well.

Never Sleep

picture-53

A book released back in September, called Never Sleep has an interesting group of essays in it.

There is a major disconnect between the life of a design student and the transition to being a design professional.

To demystify the transition, we share the failures, successes, and surprises during our years in college and progression into the field: the creative process, monetary problems, internships, interviews, mistakes, and personal relationships. We include the work from our first design class to our most current client work, along with side stories and interviews from our mentors, teachers, and peers. This book will serve as the ultimate companion for design students, educators, and anyone breaking into a creative field.

I was readingone of the essays from the book and will buy this as soon as I can get it from amazon, which seems to be out of stock.

The rest of us need to work hard to get our minds to break out of predictable patterns.

The bad news is that doing this is really tough. How tough? Try talking “wrong,” out loud right now. Link words in a nonsensical sequence meaning absolutely nothing. It’s probably possible but I can’t do it.

Tangible

tangible

Manifesting creative visions into material objects and spaces is one of the most prominent developments in contemporary design today. Tangible documents how designers are using the stylistic means of graphic design to implement their ideas spatially to create three-dimensional designs, objects and orchestrated spaces. The examples in this book show the unprecedented use of materials and innovative ideas – graphics morph into spatial sculptures, the intangible is made visual through handmade craftsmanship, physical experiences, visual environments and staged spatial installations such as art installations, interiors and architecture as well as urban interventions.

To see page previews and find out more about Tangible click here to go to Gestalten’s site.

Also, for all of you wondering what to get for my birthday in March, Tangible will be available in North American late February, and mid January in Europe and Asia.

One of our contributors, Adam Tickle, was featured in the precursor to this book, Tactile
