I observed 1,035 identities today.

After a long day of obsessively chronicling every logo, identity, brand or symbol that I became aware of, I thought it had to be publicly stated: I observed 1,035 identities today.

And, what did I learn?

This exercise is only limited by my awareness of the identity and the speed of my handwriting. I believe it would be impossible to truly document every brand you come into contact with in a 24-hour period, because many symbols play to your subconscious.

I assumed I would see the most on the drive to work, and the walk through campus to class. I was surprised to see so many in my home. I had documented hundreds, easily, before I left in the morning.

There is no denying I am only consciously aware of identities that appeal to me, based on my personal preferences and biases. I wonder how many I ignored because they did not appeal to my subconsciousness.

I’ll post more thoughts in a week or two and, of course, a list of all the identities I observed. I still need to find all the vectors online. But, for now, sleep.
