Experimental Jetset / 104 / Le Cent Quatre / Graphic Identity

Experimental Jetset (whom we interviewed in issue one) has been working on a graphic identity for 104 / Le Cent Quatre for a little over a year. Long story short, they resigned from the project and have offered the complete graphic manual online for your viewing pleasure.

Their words are better than my own:

As some of you might know, the last couple of months we have been working on the development of a full graphic identity for 104 (Le Cent Quatre), a French cultural centre that will open its doors in October 2008. (In short, our task was to come up with an underlying graphic language for 104, for other designers to use).

After working for 104 for over a year now, we recently decided (with pain in our hearts) to resign ourselves from the assignment. To put it simply, the bureaucracy involved with this project made it impossible for us to continue working on 104. (This had nothing to do with the people of 104, who were all great to work with. It had much more to do with the involvement of several parties within the City of Paris. It’s a long and boring story).

Despite everything, we wish 104 the best of luck, and hope the opening will be a big success.

I get giddy any time a complete graphic identity manual can be found online. When you add the awesomeness that is Experimental Jetset into the mix, I nearly hyperventilate.

I won’t laud and praise too much, but I will say that I think the triangles for the ‘4′ and ‘A’, as well as the vertical line for the ‘1′, are a nice complement to Renner’s classic Futura.

All in all, I would classify this as a ‘win’ for Experimental Jetset. What do you, oh faithful readers, think?
