Chip Kidd is one of the many great designers who said they were too busy to do our questionnaire.
Which is totally understandable, given he had just released a new book and was starting a band. This is the first music video for that band, Artbreak.

A new series on the Sundance Channel (and streaming on hulu) about a semester of architecture studies at Tulane, where the project involves designing and fully building an affordable home for those in financial need in New Orleans.
It’s great, doesn’t come off at all like other reality shows. Has more of a documentary feel, which I think it’s perfectly suited for.
Not to mention, they show laser cutting and man do I love laser cutters.

Adobe has put together a little site where you can complain about Adobe, to Adobe. It’s an interesting way of getting customer feedback. I don’t think it will ever really accomplish anything, but hey, at least all the griping is concentrated, and maybe you can feel better knowing someone else feels just as terribly about Illustrator crashing as you do.
Be sure to check out the top 25 gripes.

I would suggest taking this article and talking about it in interviews, if you find someone wary of hiring a new degree card carrying member of the “Recent Grad” club.
…this should be a reminder that hiring a young designer should not be seen as hiring as someone without experience, but hiring someone with potential.
Phoenix will be the site of 5 new billboards this week, promoting a separation of church and state, and freedom from religion. This makes it one of the few times I’m glad to be in Phoenix in August.

College Humor presents “Font Conference”

Aaron Horkey is a phenomenal illustrator and poster artist who grew up in rural Minnesota. His hand-drawn, obsessively detailed typography never ceases to amaze me. When we interviewed Aaron for issue one, he offered helpful advice about avoiding mistakes.
Don’t try a half cab flip right out the gate just because your high school crush happens to be watching - you will roll your ankle and end up in a shameful heap.
