David Horvitz wants to do stuff for you
Have you ever wanted someone to sit in silence and think about you for one minute? Have you considered how much your life would improve if someone would just mail you a rock from the Hudson River in Upstate New York? Has anyone thought kindly enough of you to consider mailing you a photograph of the sky for every day in 2008?
If you are willing to entertain answers to any of these questions, it may be well-worth taking a trip to the website of David Horvitz.
David is great at living in the moment, and has never done a project that has failed to make me stop and think, even for just a moment. He makes big promises (such as emailing a photo of the sky to you for each day in 2008) and never ceases to deliver.
As of this posting, here are some of the things David will do for you: (See the full list.)
Go to the small Okinawan island called Taketomi and send you an envelope filled with star-sand: 1,626$
Go to the Hudson River in Upstate New York with an envelope and find a rock and mail it to you: 20$
Go as far south as he can go in South America and take a photograph of the ocean for you: 1,335$
Look at the sky for you for one minute for every 1$ you send: any amount of money
Go as far away as possible: 3,143$
Take a Metro North train from Grand Central to New Haven and sit in the train station and read J.D. Salinger’s ‘Franny.’: 450$
Find a moon tree and kiss it: between 100-400$
Buy 30$ worth of cookies and give them away to people he finds in the street: 30$
Send you an empty envelope, it is like sending you nothing: 3$
Go on a walk with somebody: 25$
Go to Japan, go to a mountain, find a buddhist monk, and share a cup of tea with him or her: 1,412$
Sit in silence and think about you for one minute: 1$
Take a photograph of the sky just for you: 10$
What would you have David do, and how much would it cost you?

I wonder if he could write an extremely convincing letter to my [our] apartment complex explaining why I should be allowed to have a dog, successfully convince them, and help me pick one out.

I think these ideas are simply amazing, even if they are easily replicated, is the thought behind them that I think is inspiring.
